Good Counsel: It’s better to be wise than strong

A wise man is strong; yes, a man of knowledge increases strength.

Proverbs 24:5

Good Morning Beautiful,

Growing up, my dad was a pusher for all of his children to finish school and go to college. One of the things he would say is,” once you finished school, no one can take your degree away from you!” meaning that our degree was a sure indication that we obtained the right amount of knowledge to pass our classes and graduate from our universities. Therefore, no one can say that we cannot do something or try to take our understanding away from us.

God’s Word holds the same value as a degree. When you come into the knowledge of Christ, no one can take that from you. That is why God calls us to know this Word for ourselves.

Knowledge in God’s Word

Knowledge is power, and it is also a key to survival. We need the ability to strategize and plan and to make decisions. However, there is a big difference between earthly knowledge and godly knowledge. God did not call us to go in the way of this world. He called us to His Words resting on the tables of our hearts so His Word can affect this lost and dying world.

Wisdom in God gives us the strength and the power to be overcomers of the situations we may face. His Word also gives us the strength to spread the gospel to others. God says that His Word “cuts like a two-edged sword” (see Hebrews 4:12). God has given us the power just by His Words alone to be overcomers. We can learn to walk this path of faith and come out on the winning side.

The Safety of Knowledge

In Proverbs 24:6 it says, “For by wise counsel you shall make your war: and in multitude of counselors there is safety.” The counsel that this verse points to is the Bible. God’s Word is and will always be our safety net.

Many of us run to self-help books, searching for new ways to better ourselves and be overcomers of our circumstances. The best self-help book that is out there is in the Bible and knowing the Word of God. Often, we anchor or hope to the wrong things in this life, but when we learn that God is our hope, we will learn to connect ourselves to Him.

There is beauty when you draw closer to Christ. In so many ways, man alone can not help you, nor can man save you. However, when you come to learn the wisdom and knowledge of God’s Word, you will see that God can and will save us all.

There is more strength when you stand on the wisdom and knowledge of Christ. Let the Word of God be your foundation in all situations of your life. Only God can show you how to make it through and sustain this life you live day-to-day.

Reflect

  1. God has given us the best tool there is to make it through our situations.
    1. How often do you turn to the Word of God?
    2. What are somethings you can do to apply God’s Word to your daily life?
