Preparation in the Desert

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

Luke 1: 76;80 KJV

Good Morning Beautiful,

John the Baptist makes me think of someone strong, daring, purpose-driven, and dependable. At a young age, he had such a great and powerful calling on his life. To prepare a way for Jesus, the Messiah was a big ordeal in his time. I can’t imagine what having that calling may have felt like; maybe he experienced pressure to perform, and I wonder if he struggled with doubt or uncertainty regarding the task he was supposed to do at any point. There are so many questions and assumptions, but one thing remains true: he went forward and answered his calling.

Not only did John the Baptist answer his calling, but he took the appropriate time to develop his knowledge so he could lead (see Luke 1:80). John the Baptist is a person that resembles what Matthew 22:14 says as it reads, “For many are called, but few are chosen.” John the Baptist chose to respond to the call that was on his life. He, too, had a choice to go either his way or God’s way.

Choosing Christ’s path will require moments in the desert, isolated and set apart, but even in those moments, God is preparing you for something great. Everyone on the earth has a calling, but it is up to us to answer the call.

People will try to tell you who you are supposed to be, and at times, it can make you feel small. However, the God that we serve is stronger than those voices. Time and time again, I have seen God put me in situations that I was ill-equipped for to man. Moments when I felt I should give up, God gave me the willpower to fight and not give in to what people were saying about me at that time.

It’s funny how I felt the most uncertainty in those moments. God was slowly preparing me with the tools that I needed to move forward in the plan that He has for me. The same is for you! God will continue to call you, no matter what. As long as you are still living and breathing, God is calling you.

I don’t know where you are in your walk with God, but if you question your purpose, God is telling you not to lose focus of Him. Don’t focus on the naysayers but focus on His voice in your life. You may feel that you don’t possess the right skills or knowledge to perform where you are but understand that this is your time in the desert. God didn’t place you there to know already; he put you where you are so you can learn.

The way that God is taking you is not in numerical order. So, don’t let others tell you how you should move or what you should be doing. If you have said yes to God, trust in his order and His plan for your life. Your desert season is only for a moment to prepare you for the moment God wants you to be seen. Your time is coming; God is getting ready to reveal you, so be patient and trust in His timing.
